As novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread throughout the globe, researchers across the country have been called upon to find answers. Their work is vital in the development of diagnostic tools, treatments and vaccines that can be used worldwide in the fight against COVID-19.

That’s why DMRF continues to work hard throughout this crisis to support internationally collaborative research at Dalhousie, aimed at stopping coronavirus in its tracks.

As an internationally acclaimed institution for research in infection, immunity, inflammation and vaccinology, Dalhousie is a global leader in the discoveries and development of new vaccines, antiviral drugs and other life-saving viral therapies. With proven expertise, Dalhousie researchers are uniquely positioned to help with the global fight against coronavirus, and are working with a powerful research network of national and international experts to reach common goals, faster.

Check in with us on our website and social media channels as we profile some of these outstanding researchers and their work, including the pursuit of rapid testing kits, antiviral drugs and vaccines for COVID-19.

Because of loyal support from DMRF donors, DMRF has contributed $250,000 in support of COVID-19 research at Dalhousie through our endowment.

This support has helped researchers unlock important federal funding for their work, as well as an additional $600,000 in funding from Research Nova Scotia.

In addition, DMRF is proud to have teamed up with key stakeholders from across Nova Scotia this spring to form the Nova Scotia COVID-19 Health Research Coalition. With funding commitments from all coalition partners, a collective investment of $1.5 million was assembled to support leading COVID-19 research efforts in the province.

Funding is currently being directed to research aimed at developing rapid testing kits, antiviral drugs and vaccines to save lives and slow the global spread of COVID-19. DMRF is deeply grateful to its donors for making all of this possible.

“At DMRF, we witness the power of solidarity everyday. Our researchers work tirelessly to find faster diagnoses, better treatments, and ultimately, cures for the many conditions and diseases of our time. Today, their work has never been more important.”
