The advancement of health research outcomes would not happen without the time, education, expertise, and dedication of the local health researchers we are so proud to support.

That’s why for over 40 years, DMRF has worked with its donors to support hundreds of these world-class researchers by endowing projects, training leaders in health research, building partnerships, and funding new discoveries. We are helping researchers impact health outcomes here in the Maritimes, and all over the world.

With that in mind, we welcome researchers at Dalhousie’s Faculties of Medicine, Health, and Dentistry to review our competition schedule and apply for any grant they deem applicable to their research project.

DMRF Health Influencers Grant

The DMRF Health Influencers Grant is an annual fund supported by a group of individuals across the Maritimes. This year, they have collectively raised $37,500 to provide funding to programs focused on making meaningful impacts and advancements in genetics and genomics health research. They are searching for cutting edge projects that focus on making a shift from our disease-oriented health-care system to one that is more precise, personalized, predictive, preventative, and cost effective.

DMRF Dr. J. Donald Hatcher Research Prize

For fourth-year medical students, this $2,000 prize recognizes medical research excellence in work undertaken during undergraduate medical training.

Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation / Faculty of Medicine RIM Studentships

DMRF supports RIM by providing $5,000 stipends for medical students to carry out a research project in the summer after their Med 1 or Med 2 year.

Recruitment & Training Awards

The influx of new ideas, skills, and expertise is fuel for a productive, competitive research program—while young new talent ensures the vibrancy of the research effort into the future. DMRF salary awards play a key role in attracting new members to the Faculty of Medicine, providing opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to strengthen their research skills, and encouraging medical students to pursue research-oriented careers.
