To know and not do, is to not yet know.

This April, it's time to break up with your bad habits!

DMRF is so excited to launch the Breakthrough Challenge, a way for Nova Scotians to challenge themselves to give up a habit that no longer serves them or their health—or to add something to thier routine that does!

DMRF supported researcher, Dr. Gabriela Ilie is taking the challenge on, and is making it a team effort! With her leadership, she's encouraging her colleagues, friends, and family to join in as well and make healthier choices this April. We asked Dr. Ilie, who leads the Soillse Prostate Cancer research project, what motivated her to join the Challenge.

“To know and not do, is to not yet know. It is so important that I don’t let my own health (high levels of stress and inactivity during winter time during a pandemic) slip away and teach by demonstration. I am not worried about my physical activity and stress levels in the summer. But I have noticed over the winter time my physical activity becoming 3 or 2 times a week, less standing and more sitting, and an increase in levels of stress with various deadlines that pilled up unusually during this past winter. My whole research and knowledge translation outreach is about educating and empowering patients with the knowledge about lifestyle aspects that promote good heath and thriving. I have worked hard to live what I teach, but I see some slacking. Time to get back on track and this is such a great opportunity to do so. I need to balance my work with play and make sure I do things that inspire me like exercising in various ways: yoga, hiking, aerobic dancing, swimming, and painting, playing the guitar, reading a book for my soul, gardening. This challenge is perfect for me to carve sometime out for me: 1 hour a day every day, to get back on track. How exciting to share my journey with everyone. I can do it. We can do it!”

DMRF is so proud to support Dr. Ilie's incredible research and her personal breakthrough! Join her and take on the DMRF Breakthrough Challenge too!
