DMRF Breakthrough Accelerator Awards

Due Date ~ Monday, September 23, 2019 (4:00pm)
This award recognizes excellence in medical research with the aim of promoting and encouraging its pursuit in the Dalhousie Medical School.  It is open to mid-career investigators (7-12 years from first academic appointment) in Dalhousie University's Faculty of Medicine and is intended to accelerate their current research priorities.  Two awards are available; one for a basic science/fundamental investigator and one for a clinical/translational investigator.  Each recipient will receive a one-time research award of $40,000.

DMRF Capital Equipment Grants - TIPS

Due Date ~ Monday, October 21,  2019 (4:00pm)
Grants up to a maximum of $30,000 are normally available.

DMRF Picchione Visiting Scholar Programme - Fall Competition

A maximum of $3,250 to support the costs of a visiting lecturer to the Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine.

DMRF Gillian's Hope Visiting Scholar in MS Research

DMRF Spring 2020 Molly Appeal for Health Research  (also available in word format)

DMRF invites applications (maximum funding request: $75,000) for the Spring 2020 Molly Appeal for Health Research Funding.  This call for applications is open to all Dalhousie Faculties supported by DMRF.  Specifically; Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Health and Faculty of Medicine.

DMRF Picchione Visiting Scholar Programme - Spring Competition

A maximum of $3,250 to support the costs of a visiting lecturer to the Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine.

DMRF Conference Grants

Due Date ~ Monday, February 24, 2020 (4:00pm)
A maximum of two $5,000 grants or one $10,000 grant to support a conference taking place in the next fiscal year - for the current competition, the conference must be taking place at Dalhousie University sometime between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021.  

DMRF Kathryn A. Weldon Travel Awards

Due Date ~ Monday, February 24, 2020 (4:00pm)
Six awards of $2,000 for conference travel to make a presentation are available for graduate students in the Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine.  

DMRF / DMNB ECCU Award

Due Date ~ Friday, February 28, 2020 (midnight)
Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation supports Emergency and Critical Care Award in Emergency Medical Innovation by providing $1,250 annually.  The award is available to a DMNB Medical Student, a Dalhousie Medicine Resident based in New Brunswick, or other New Brunswick based health care professional working with a Dalhousie Faculty member, e.g., a nurse researcher.

DMRF Frank and Debbi Sobey Lectureship

Due Date ~ Monday, March 23, 2020 (4:00pm)
The purpose of this Lectureship is to bring internationally respected experts in one of the following areas of research: Alzheimer's, prostate cancer, or cardiovascular, to Dalhousie University to engage with students, faculty, staff, donors, volunteers and/or members of the general public.  Up to $5,000 is available annually to support each visit.  Pleae note that there is a rotation in the area of research.  This year's area of research is ALZHEIMER'S.

DMRF Dr. J. Donald Hatcher Research Prize

For fourth-year medical students, this $2,000 prize recognizes medical research excellence in work undertaken during undergraduate medical training.

DMRF Max Forman Senior Research Prize

This prize recognizes excellence in medical research with the aim of promoting and encouraging its pursuit in the Dalhousie Medical School.  The award is open to all senior investigators ( >12 years from first academic appointment) in the Faculty of Medicine.  The recipient will receive a cash prize of $10,000.

DMRF Gillian's Hope Clinical Fellowship in MS Research

Due Date ~ Monday, April 23, 2020 (4:00pm)
This Fellowship was created in honour of Gillian Morrow - a Nova Scotia woman who lived with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for decades.  DMRF's Gillian's Hope fund for MS Research and the Dalhousie Multiple Sclerosis Research Unit will fund a research fellow for up to a 2 year term per student to engage in clinical and or basic research in MS.

DMRF DeWolfe Graduate Studentship

Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation's DeWolfe Graduate Studentship intended to provide support to students who are pursuing a Master's Degree or a PhD in a health related field at Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine.  A maximum trainee stipend of $10,000 per year will be available for the studentship for a two-year period.

DMRF Hoegg Graduate Studentship

Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation's Hoegg Graduate Studentship is intended to provide support to students who are pursuing a Master's Degree or a PhD in the area of cardiovascular research at Dalhousie University's Faculty of Medicine or Faculty of Health.  A maximum trainee stipend of $10,000 per year will be available for the studentship for a two-year period.

DMRF MacDonald Graduate Studentship

Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation's MacDonald Graduate Studentship is intended to provide support to students who are pursuing a Master's Degree or a PhD in the areas of cardiovascular research and diabetes research at Dalhousie University's Faculty of Medicine.  A maximum trainee stipend of $10,000 per year will be available for the studentship for a two-year period.

DMRF Malcolm MacQuarrie Graduate Studentship

Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation's Malcolm MacQuarrie Graduate Studentship intended to provide support to students who are pursuing a Master's Degree or a PhD in the area of neuroscience research at Dalhousie University's Faculty of Medicine.  A maximum trainee stipend of $10,000 per year will be available for the studentship for a two-year period.

Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation / Faculty of Medicine RIM Studentships

DMRF supports RIM by providing $5,000 stipends for medical students to carry out a research project in the summer after their Med 1 or Med 2 year.
