Board of Directors

DMRF is fortunate to have an esteemed group of Board Members who offer our organization a diverse skill set, strong business acumen, and passion for medical and health research excellence.  For almost forty years, DMRF has grown to become a leader in funding the outstanding medical and health research taking place at Dalhousie, thanks to the exceptional governance of our Board.

AGM 2018 - FAREWELL TO MR. GLEN DEXTER AND WELCOME TO MR. JOE RAMIA AND MR. PETER MANN

On June 20th, 2018, the DMRF Board of Directors gathered to review Fiscal 2017/18 at their Annual General Meeting.  On this day, we said thank you and goodbye to long-time DMRF Board Member, Mr. Glen Dexter, who has been astutely and diligently serving us since 2001.  A graduate of Dalhousie University, Glen holds degrees in Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Science, as well as a Master of Mathematics from Waterloo University. Glen practiced corporate law for 15 years with Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales.  Currently, he is Chairman and CEO of Medusa Medical Technologies Inc.  DMRF thanks Glen for his enthusiasm, wise-council and dedication.

DMRF also welcomed two new Board Members, Mr. Joe Ramia and Mr. Peter Mann, two exceptional businesspeople whose expertise, experience, and shrewd insights will undoubtedly grow DMRF exponentially.  We are incredibly pleased to bring them both to our table.

CONGRATULATIONS TO LYNN CLARK IRVING

We’d like to offer our congratulations to Ms. Lynn Irving, a DMRF Board Member since 2016, who received a 2018 Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) from Dalhousie University at Spring Convocation.   Lynn grew up in Kentville, NS.  She earned a BSc from Acadia and a Diploma in Physiotherapy from Dalhousie.  Currently, she is an internal consultant for Irving Health Services at J.D. Irving Limited, where she has helped develop and implement award-winning workplace wellness, disability management, and employee health and productivity programs.

As Chair of the medical research capital campaign for Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick, Lynn made it possible for all medical students at Dalhousie to learn best practices in workplace health and safety and occupational wellness. Of the incredible $15 million raised by this campaign, $5 million was earmarked to fund the J.D. Irving Ltd. Chair in Occupational Medicine, Canada’s first fully endowed chair in this field. Lynn’s extensive service to Dalhousie includes sitting on the Board of Governors from 2003 to 2012, during which she was an integral part of the Bold Ambitions Leadership Council that helped raise $280 million for the university.  We are fortunate she has chosen to share her immense knowledge and philanthropic aptitude with DMRF.   Congratulations on an honour that is much deserved.
