Attacking the Number One health challenge in the Maritimes
Heart failure – the progressive wearing down of the heart muscle after a heart attack – is the leading cause of hospitalization in the Maritimes. Dalhousie medical researchers are world leaders in the quest to develop heart failure therapies. Their work has the potential to repair damage caused by heart attacks, reverse the symptoms of heart failure and prolong the lives of heart transplant patients.
2007 Molly Appeal will establish Centre for Excellence in Heart Function Research
This year's Molly Appeal will help Dalhousie Medical School's growing cardiovascular research community establish a Centre for Excellence in Heart Function Research. This centre will provide enhanced facilities and a forum for Dalhousie's growing community of cardiovascular researchers to work together to solve the multi-faceted problem of heart disease.
Donors support the Molly Appeal with all their hearts
The 2003 Molly Appeal in support of cardiovascular research raised an outstanding $173,000. These funds were used to purchase crucial equipment for Medical School's ‘Core Facility for Experimental Heart Disease.' This facility will be a cornerstone of the Centre for Excellence in Heart Function Studies.
