Dr. Balwantray Chauhan, Chair in Vision Research
Dr. Chauhan became Dalhousie’s first Chair in Vision Research in 2001. Professor and Director of Research in the Department of Ophthalmology, Dr. Chauhan specializes in glaucoma, a serious blinding disease caused by degeneration of the optic nerve. He leads the Canadian Glaucoma Study, the largest clinical study of glaucoma ever conducted in Canada, and belongs to a group of top scientists in Dalhousie’s Retina and Optic Nerve Research Laboratory, where research is uncovering clues as to how the retina functions in health and disease.
